​How much technique does it take before sexy becomes high art?



​

This work asks why ballet is so often recognized as "high art," while heels—despite demanding extraordinary technical precision, athleticism, musicality, and years of training—is more readily dismissed as entertainment, nightlife, or sexuality.

​By placing the vocabularies of heels and ballet side by side, the work reveals their shared foundations while exposing the cultural biases that separate them. Where does artistry begin? Who gets to decide? And how much of our answer is shaped by the body performing it?

​​​Rather than presenting a finished statement, this project is being developed in public. Audiences are invited into the creative process itself, helping shape how these parallels are revealed before the work reaches its final form.

​​​​ On July 22, 8-10PM, Karley hosts WORKS IN PROCESS at Arts On Site—an informal showing and fundraiser inviting audiences directly into the creative process. Preview unedited LaserCats footage, help shape the final cut, and give feedback on a heels ballet work in development. Karley is raising $2,000 toward a full production coming this fall.
